...and after some initial conversation, the guy goes...
dim lights, spot
"Okay, just hear me out. I know you know you're approaching someone with a mental health background. I've been in and out of hospitals and even jail a few times since I was 20. I understand the concerns that some people are having;
"You did your initial assessment when you were walking up the road: Tall, built enough, seems pretty alert. By now you know I'm lucid enough to know you're not a talking turnip.
"When there's a question about somebody, people factor in their imaginations too. 'He seems strong, what if _____? What if he were to attack somebody? Who knows what could be going through his mind? It would be better if he weren't so fit. It would make us feel better if he were weak, so that just in case, we could have an advantage.'
"You ought to know what inactivity does, doing what you do. You get restless. Devil's workshop, and all that. Confined to weakness, the weak, knowing they're weak, compensate for it by being edgy."
the edge of the spotlight catches the officer's hip, shifting weight from one leg to the other
"Never been a violent person. Want to let me work out?"
DOES THE COP...
A. Arrest the felon?
B. Write him a ticket?
C. Taser the person?
D. Shoot the man?
E. All of the above?
